OCHRA is a delicatessen located on our family farm, Avondale Wine Estate. Here we have followed sustainable farming practices for over a decade. When our wine business was brought to a standstill operations by COVID-19 from March 2020, placing many jobs at risk, we seized the opportunity to start Ochra.

We have always been proudly Paarl, supporting local business wherever possible. As we searched for suppliers, we realised again just how amazing and resourceful local is, and we grasped the opportunity to support local. A selection of the finest quality natural handcrafted produce is available in Ochra.

The Ochra emblem is Ronald Rooster. To us, Ronald Rooster embodies resilience in the face of adversity, fortitude in the face of disaster, and grit in the face of misery. Ronald never, never takes a day off. He dares not – the entire farm relies on him to wake us! In all weather, irrespective of how he feels, Ronald gets up, suits up, shows up, and gets us up.

This is an open invitation to visit us at Ochra, to browse, enjoy a range of local made products, enjoy a relaxing cup of coffee in the gardens, or bring the family for a Saturday stroll – who knows, you might be lucky enough meet Ronald.

We are situated on the beautiful Avondale Wine Estate, in the Cape Winelands. Avondale is a certified Wine Estate that practices biodynamic farming. Surrounded by the magnificent mountains of Paarl Rock, the Simonsberg and the Klein Drakenstein Mountains, this is the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee or glass of wine over a cheese platter.
